Faye Didymus

so excited to be in the final of I'm a Scientist! Thank you to all who voted for me...looking forward to next week and hopefully lots more questions and votes! :)

Favourite Thing: Try to figure out how people’s brains work and what goes on inside the World’s best athletes’ heads when they’re under lots of pressure to do well in their sport

Meoncross School (1990-2003) and Peter Symonds College (2003-2005)

University of Gloucestershire (2005-2008), Brunel University (2008-2009) and Loughborough University (2009-2012)

Work History:

Lots of different places including hotels, swimming pools, America, and universities

Loughborough University

Current Job:

I’m a PhD Student in Sport and Performance Psychology but I also do lots of little jobs that involve delivering and writing about Sport Psychology

Me and my work

I use psychological science and apply it to sports. I teach students at Loughborough University and work alongside a number of athletes to try and help them perform as best they can in competitions

My Typical Day

Every day is different but I always make sure I have a good breakfast to fuel me for the day! I might be out and about collecting data with athletes or in the office crunching numbers or analyzing interviews from athletes.

What I'd do with the money

I’d like to organise and run some Sports Psychology sessions for people of all ages to explain the psychological side of the London Olympics. I’d also like to make some educational videos to use science to inspire young people to be active and take up a new sport!

My Interview

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Passionate, enthusiastic, adventurous

Would you rather be a scientist or an athlete? And why?

A scientist because if I was an athlete I wouldn’t get to do all of the cool things that I get to do as a scientist!

If you could have a body super power, what would it be and why?

My super power would be to fly because I love the thought of going really fast through the clouds and I love to go to different countries so I’d be able to get there really quickly and see loads of beautiful sights on the way

Which Olympic event would you most like to win? And why?

The Ice Skating at the winter Olympics because it’s such a difficult but beautiful sport…I love a challenge!

What did you want to be after you left school?

I wanted to be a Vet or a doctor

Were you ever in trouble in at school?

Yes! I talked a lot!

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

Worked with Olympic athletes

Tell us a joke.
