Nanotechnology is quite a recent invention, it was invented in the 1980s by a scientist who aimed to design functional systems at an extremely small scale. This how today we have micro-computers and machines that are tiny but are very powerful. Mobile phones were quite big when they were first invented and they could only make or receive calls. Today they can do anything in addition to making phone calls. This is because of the microchips they contain.
