      Hey! That’s a great question. Wood is made mainly from two compounds; one’s called cellulose, and the other is called lignin. Cellulose is a type of carbohydrate, which means that it’s made from Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. Lignin is also made from those elements, but in a different configuration – in fact, lignin molecules are pretty huge (their molecular structure is C9 H10 O2, C10 H12 O3, C11 H14 O4)!

      Like other living things, seeds grow into plants and trees by creating new cells, which happens when a ‘parent’ cell divides into two ‘daughter’ cells. Some cells form root structures, which helps to draw water and minerals in to help growth, and some cells form stem structures, which will eventually grow to form wood.
