      Hi spongeyyy,

Speech recognition is now used in a wide variety of settings e.g. Mobile phones, when you call large companies, or simply speak into a microphone to type words on your computer.
The current programs generally fall into 2 categories:
Small-vocabulary/many users- This refers to the Ipad and mobile phone which you were asking about. These systems are capable of understanding alot of accents and works with short basic commands such as ‘ring . . . ‘ or ‘ open folder . . . ’
Large-vocabulary/limited-users- refers to when you train the programme to understand your personal voice e.g. You may read paragraphs to the programme so it gets used to your voice.

Hope this helps. If there are any further questions then please ask.

      Thanks,
      Adam
