Darkness isn’t a thing, it’s a lack of something, just like dryness is the lack of liquid, cold is the lack of heat and in this case darkness is the lack of light. Say you have a light source, but then switch it off. If you could “see” darkness instantly, see light rays from the side and could slow down time such that you could watch the light rays, you would see darkness “spreading” at the speed of light in that light leaves a given area at, of course, the speed of light.
