Great question! The cells in your body consantly need energy, from things like proteins, carbohydrates and fats. When they use this fuel, heat is generated as part of the process. This heat is passed on into the blood, which causes your body to become warm. When someone dies, the cells in their body stop working, which means they don’t generate heat any more, and the person’s body becomes cold.

A dead body is cold because there is no longer any blood flowing through it. Nothing inside of the body it is moving or pumping so the body becomes cold because nothing is really happening inside. When we don’t have bloody circulating, our muscles and tissues don’t have the proteins and things that they need to work and do they don’t release any heat.
