Hi shayleehartles! Great question – at some point after the big bang, when our sun started forming, it was surrounded by lots of gases and dust swirling around it in a HUGE disc. Over millions of years, little clusters of gas and dust started to collect together to form a super-hot molten core. Eventually, the surface of this core cooled down to form a crust, and because this ball had its own gravity, began to pull more and more dust and debris onto its surface. This is how the Earth was formed – in fact, that’s how all of the planets were formed in our solar system!
