Hi umadbr0 – believe it or not there’s very little research examinating the influence of embarrassment on performance. Embarrassment is typically associated with a tendency to withdraw, and perhaps a focus on what others might be thinking of us, each of which could have an impact on sport performance. I know of only one study that examines in the impact of embarrassment on performance (one of my own) and this demonstrated that embarrassment was associated with more unsuccessful game behaviours (e.g., turnover, unsuccessful free throw attempt) in basketball, compared to their “average” performance.
