The alphabet is a set of letters, symbols or charaters that is used to write a language. It is based on the general principle that the letters represent basic, significant sounds of a language. There are lots of different alphabets used today, the most common is the Latin alphabet which we are using now. A true alphabet has letters for vowels (a,e,i,o,u in our alphabet) and consonants (the other letters except a,e,i,o,u) and the first true alphabet is thought to be the Greek alphabet. Over time the symbols and characters have been altered and now we have the alphabet that we use today.
