Hi jobyhenderson007! Great question – Adam’s apples are actually part of your voice box (or to give it the proper name, your larynx). Men’s voice boxes are usually bigger than women’s, and so it sticks out more for men!

Hi jobyhenderson007! Men have an Adam’s apple because their “voice-box”, which contains vocal cords is larger in men than in women. It is actually the thyroid cartilage, which makes up a part of the voice box, that protrudes from the front of the neck forming the familiar “Adam’s apple”. An interesting fact is that both men and women have Adam’s apples! It’s just that men’s are bigger so are more easily seen!
