Great question! There’s two ways in which fat makes us warm. The first way is that it can be used as a fuel for the reactions that occur in the cells in your body. When this happens, heat is generated as a byproduct.

On the other hand, fat itself doesn’t make us warm, but acts as an insulator – it prevents heat from escaping your body, and so keeps it inside to keep you warm!

That’s a great question maxalvers007! You have answered part of your question yourself, which is pretty cool!…fat keeps us warm because it acts like insulation for our body. One of the reasons why it keeps us warm is because fat isn’t very good at conducting heat so instead of letting heat pass out of our bodies, it traps it inside to keep our organs at an optimal temperature (37.5 degrees celsius). Fat is also a place where we can store energy and heat is generated when fat cells release this energy for other cells to use. So that’s another reason why fat makes us warm 🙂
