Good question! Stomach rumbles have got a wonderful scientific name – Borboygmus. The rumbles come about from the movement of gases and fluids in the body, usually in the intestines. After you’ve eaten, your body will be going through a process of pushing the food down through your alimentary canal via a process called ‘peristalsis’. It’s this process that causes tummy rumbles as well, when air is pushed through the system and gurgles. You can induce it in your throat sometimes when you swallow air too, and comes back up as a burp!
