Every process and reaction in the body needs water, its what we call an ‘obligate water consumption’. If you don’t take enough in to fuel all these reactions, the body becomes deficient in water which causes dizziness, nausea, and eventually death.

A lack of water can be a dangerous thing and in large amounts, e.g. when sweating during a marathon, it may cause an imbalance between the electrolytes and water in the body. This imbalance can affect the kidneys and lower the water level in the body even if you drink more. That is why athletes use energy drinks rather than just water after hard exercise so as to restore the bodies natural balance.
